These fall days

We've been busy enjoying these last few weeks of fall, and because of this I haven't been doing much blogging but it's been worth it because we did have many great Autumn days outside especially before Mr.Jack Frost comes a pulls his frosty blanket over the land.
I hope you all weathered Hurricane Sandy ok. This is a picture the night of the Hurricane. We had the boys sleep downstairs in Caila's room I am always so worried a tree will fall down on the house so they gad a camp out in her room (Please don't mind the GIANT pile of clothes in the corner of Caila's room I think she must have changed 5 times that day and of course made a mess of her drawers...lol We didn't really get much of anything besides high winds and rain.

We were also happy because Halloween wasn't postponed like last year. This was the first year I didn't make all the kids costumes, actually we only made Rick's Lego guy. The others we got second hand because they were exactly what the kids wanted to be and I couldn't make them for the prices I bought them for...so here's my Halloween crew

(She's growing out her hair. hehe)
Actually she was a sunflower
I've also been busy with  Birthday preparations.. tomorrow will be Caila's 7th birthday "gulp"and the 15th will be Rick's 9th Birthday "double gulp"
Yesterday we had family yard clean up day, which is an all day affair because we have huge big old oak trees in our yard and leaf piles as deep as Jameson.

Well I have to go to put little Annabelle and Jameson in for a nap but I'll be back in a few days to blog about a few swaps I'm working on as well as handmade gifts I've been crafting :)
Have a lovely Monday!!

Semtember's happenings...

"Everyday we need something to do, something to love, something worthwhile to think about."
 Karen Andreola,
Pocketfull of Pinecones

So we've been busy these days settling nicely into our rhythem of everyday life durring the school year. The kids are still enjoying their worbox system and I am too!! I finally get to dust off all those file folder games, and fun brain teaser games,  as well as $1 store puzzles that are sometimes forgotten about. The kids are also apart of  a few extra activities such as boy scouts, and gymnastics (Caila also wants to start up in girl scouts as well)
Rick has his first project that he had to represent infront of his boy scout troop. The project was asking the kids why America is great. So of course I made it into a bigger project then it had to be ( the way I saw it was a history study oppertunity...you know the saying "two birds..one stone" kind of thing. So we discused our rights as Americans and then I had him pick one of our rights ( he picked freedom of speech) So we talked about it and of course watched a bunch of youtube video's with riots, protests, and strikes. He then had to show me what he learned
and this is what I got....

   Is that's not a project from a hippie child I don't know what is..lol
It's a protest against off shore drilling.

Our homeschool stuff is also going well I love our system this year it's really help me to be more organized. I found the idea on pintrest of course and love it!!!
Here are a couple of our notebooking pages from this month...

We've been learning about farming...

And Caila has been learning about astronomy
So far I'm happy with all of our curriculium everyone seems to be doing well. I am also so excited because I have this little reader who enjoys reading so much and has already read through the box of beginner reading books I got for her. After some serious hunting I found these books..
They are absolutely beautiful I bought them from a waldorf book supply/resource site  I love them so much I actually put another order in for books for my son here and they are on their way...(looks like I will be stalking the mail man for the next few days..lol

I've been busy myself with crafts and volunteering at our local fair at the la leche league booth.
We took the kids to the fair this Monday and they of course had a blast!!!

I was able to get together with a very dear friend this month too!! So of course we had to sneak in a bit of crafting on our visit..hehe

Here are the few crafts I've been working on this month...
This is a car seat blanket I made for an old high school friend who's expecting her first baby..you can find my notes and more pictures here if your interested...

I also wanted to mention a new craft that I'm learning..it's an old craft called tatting. I made a new dear friend at the local fair she was nice enough to show me how and I'm in love!!! My mama wanted me to learn how so I could give her some pointers and show her how to especial since she LOVES lace!! You can find her blog here to see some of her glorious creations!!!
So far I've only made this butterfly but I think it's so cute...I'd like to dye my own yarn because I LOVE bright colors and multi color yarn. So that's on my to do list in the next few weeks...

The Great Balancing act

Now that we're back in school I find myself doing this balancing act all the time.. I feel like I'm a tightrope walker and my hands are filled with school books, laundry to be hung on the line and diapers to be washed, as well as a long list of Christmas crafts I want to make, and projects I want to make for our store, not to mention the nursing baby in the wrap and the toddler on my hip. I know it sounds a bit extreme but honestly this is how I feel these last two week. I honestly can't believe how out of whack the kids get when their rhythm is throw off and I must admit I too get all thrown off. It's a BIG change from the kids playing outside ALL day long EVERYDAY to having to spend a good chunk of the morning and early afternoon doing school...not to mention how this school thing is really cutting into my crafting time..lol I did make school for fun and hand on this year compare to last year when I was pregnant and tired and honestly only did book work the last few months of school. (Nodding my head down in shame)

I think I sometime  also get discouraged when I'm blog hopping and I see all these wonderful inspiring mothers that make the switch from summer mode to school mode so gracefully. (I've never been a graceful person...so maybe that's my problem) Now that we have the school thing under control my next mission is order in the house. Gosh that first week our house looked like a tornado went through it...I honestly don't know what happened but WOW it was embarrassing I'm so thankful we didn't have a visitor that week or the school board may have gotten an anonymous phone call about the kids living conditions..hahah

My purpose of this post is not to complain to you but to show you that there are bloggers out there that don't have it all together all the time and although things are crazy right now I wouldn't change it for the world. I still enjoy all my kids at home being each others best friends as they play battleship or go bug hunting in the back yard, these are the memories I want them to treasure...and we'll just pray they don't remember the "Mommy Dearest" moment I occasionally have...lol
