Well it all started with a playmobile Sphinx that son received as a Christmas gift, He was glued from that day on...He just couldn't get enough of the ancient Egyptians times...

We also bought this cool thing at Michael's craft store...They were called project bricks it was $15 but if you use a coupon I think they are well worth it especially since we only used 1/4 of the box to make the pyramid there are lots of suggestions on the box for future projects as well. It's funny because my son brought it to my attention that we built a "step pyramid" out of these project bricks, I couldn't have been more proud of him as he showed off his new knowledge:-)
We then mounted our step pyramid to a scrap piece of wood that daddy had then we painted glue and topped it with sand around the outside of the wood, I also bought one of those Egyptian tubes that you find at the craft stores. We also mounted our treasures that we formed from modeling clay...things that you would find inside the burial chamber...a boat, the book of the dead, jewels, the sarcophagus, the four canopic jars, a mummy of course and Rick also decided to make a foot??? don't ask me why but he thought they would need a foot in the next life..lol
getting ready to paper mache pharaohs mask..
and a word to the wise don't put your mask on the dryer thinking is might speed up the drying process..it only curled our mask so I had to re-dry it with a hair dryer and hold the sides down..but it all worked out...
we also didn't paper mache over the eyes we just worked around the eyes...and another tip would be to really look at the gold spray paint when you pick it out because we bought gold but it was accent gold and only came out sparkly so we had to paint it yellow then add the sparkle gold on top.
I will add pictures of our lapbook just as soon as we're done...we just need to glue everything in place today...
that pyramid is amazing!!!! Can I be in your "class"?? Lol We did some egyptian stuff the beginning of the year, but the kids just were not all that enthralled. Maybe I will try revisiting so we can make an awesome pyramid like that!
ReplyDeleteYou need to tell them how they used to pick out the brain through the nose...that might get their attention:-) lol
